Java And Bedrock Editions Merge Creating One Minecraft To Rule Them All

The wild success of Minecraft didn't come without its problems, one of which was that the original game was coded in Java. This is the version that some players prefer. However, for many years, the'standard edition' of Minecraft has been the Bedrock edition. It was renamed to merely 'Minecraft' in 2017.

Confused? The differences are important for those who invest in Minecraft. The most important is that the Java edition is easier to modify. No matter how you play Minecraft, the split always had a notable flaw on PC. You had to buy both separately. Now Mojang and Microsoft has announced that, as of tomorrow June 7, the two versions of what some consider the most successful game of all time have been smooshed-together into Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.

That's some great naming. This allows buyers to access both editions and is the "only offering" of vanilla Minecraft for Windows PC. You can cross-play the game with Java or Bedrock players if you launch the edition your friends are playing.

The duo-pack edition will be available to players who already own one the game versions. Mojang warns that this may take some time to roll out completely, but all Minecraft Launcher owners should see the new package appear automatically within the next few days.

Mojang, in a blog post announcing the change, stated that Java (and Bedrock) will still be separate games with their unique features. "The only difference between the two is that you get them both by default when purchasing Minecraft for Windows PC. Access them both from the same launcher.

The split between versions hasn't been without controversy over the years: Java players got upset when the game started insisting on a Microsoft account (opens in new tab). However, this move seems to make a lot more sense and be a good thing for players.

Minecraft is in remarkable health. Players are currently waiting for the huge Wilds update (opens new tab). It is still a constant presence on the real world. It was used most recently in the French president Emmanuel Macron’s re-election campaign. I wonder how many people visited that server to vote. And of course, regardless of what edition they're using, players continue to create the most mind-blowing of visual spectacles in this blocky and endlessly creative world (opens in new tab). minecraft
