Minecraft Java Edition Locks Out Old Accounts In March

In 2020, developers announced a major update to Minecraft: Java Edition. Players will soon have to transfer their Mojang account to an Microsoft account to continue playing. That's 'soon' in relative terms, as we're still not quite at the deadline however, the developers have recently confirmed the date and sent out the final request for account migration.



As from March 10, you will not be able to play Minecraft: Java Edition with an account with a Mojang account. Server stat The developers are encouraging everyone to switch over to Microsoft accounts for "improved security and player security", and they're enticing gamers to switch with the promise of free Minecraft capes.

Java Edition will continue to be supported in the normal way following the change and will continue be a distinct entity from Bedrock. This is a simple unification of the account systems.
