Teenager Arrested Over Mass Faculty Bomb Hoax

Following a massive bomb hoax that shut down hundreds of schools and colleges across the UK, the teen believed to be at the heart of an Minecraft gamers' dispute was arrested.



The 19-year old was arrested by Hertfordshire police after 24,000 threatening emails were sent to schools warning of imminent bomb attacks unless cash was handed over.



The emails were spoofed to look as if they were sent by a gaming platform called VeltPvP. VeltPvP is an online Minecraft player-versus-player server is the same kind of service that companies use to sell their products to gamers.



Following a massive bomb hoax that forced the closure of hundreds of schools across the UK, a teenager believed to be at the centre of an Minecraft gamers' dispute was detained by police from Hertfordshire. Hertfordshire police arrested the 19-year-old following 24,000 emails were sent out to schools warning about the threat of attack.



These emails were sent to disable VeltPvP and were intended to cause the domain's abuse to be suspended.



The National Crime Agency (NCA) said that there was no credible threat to the emails that were received this week.

They acknowledged that they were aware of the concerns of parents and teachers, but stressed that there was no credible threat from the emails that were sent to schools.

Following the bomb hoax emails, signs were placed outside Cardinal Road School in Feltham



The feud was based on the notion that rivals had engaged in illegal activities to prevent one another from doing business.



When asked whether he regretted the impact the letters had on students who were forced to evacuate one of the hoaxers replied, "It is terrible, it's not the most pleasant thing."



The blame is being placed on VeltPvP the hoaxer claimed that the network was involved in a campaign of Direct Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks - which he claims were used to attempt to block other competitors' Minecraft servers.



Parents were urged to pick up their children following the bomb hoax threat email



In a statement, VeltPvP said: 'We've been harassed by cybercriminals who are trying to intimidate us in any way possible.



'We're extremely sorry for those who had to deal with this, but remember that it's fake.' Minecraft



The email was sent to more than 400 colleges and schools across the nation. It claimed that a bomb had already been planted and would explode if the money was not provided.



Cardinal Road School, Feltham, West London was one of the schools that received the hoax email



Police forces from London, Bristol, Liverpool and Bedfordshire were among those who conducted an investigation.



Some parents asked to be allowed to pick up their children from school amid concerns about the emails.



Six schools across Hertfordshire were also among those affected: Abbots Hill in Hemel Hempstead, Valley School in Stevenage, The Sele School in Hertford, Duncombe School in Hertford, Stanborough School in Watford and St Albans High School.
